Open Show September 2009

Judge: Mrs Melanie Presland (Kofyn)

I was delighted and honoured to be invited to judge the WWEBS autumn open show.  I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for their generous hospitality offered to myself and Malcolm and my two very capable stewards Lisa and Amanda for the smooth running of the ring.  The gorgeous sunny weather made the atmosphere a cross between a Buckingham Palace garden party and an old school reunion, simply sublime!

My thanks go to the exhibitors for providing me with lovely dogs to go over and their graceful acceptance of my decisions.  I was absolutely delighted with the quality of both my dog and bitch line ups and final decisions were very difficult.

MPD 5 1)  Green’s Nashbank Gryffydd, 6 mths fawn, high quality with promising head piece, no where near finished but square throughout, dark eye and perfect mouth.  Balanced body on one so young, with arched neck leading to correct shoulder and topline, good bone, super quarters, absolutely true coming and going, put down immaculately and handled to perfection. BPD & BPIS.

2) Wilson’s Hyerdunscar’s Notorious Edd, red, 8 mths, another of good quality and type, lovely head coming, good body with plenty of bone and substance, super hindquarters, moved well preferred mouth of 1.

3) Hughes & James Nashbank Glyndwr.

PD 2 1) Colliass’ Oldwell Ike, fawn, 11mths, a little shy to examine but of good quality throughout with bone, substance and balance.  Excellent wide loin and muscular hindquarters, very good mover on tidy feet, a slow maturing type, head yet to finish, but looks like worth waiting for.

JD 7 1) Pinch’s Nautionier Helios, red 16 mths, appealing head, good body properties with straight forelegs, good brisket, topline and muscular quarters, balanced throughout with bone and substance, good movement fore and aft, superb temperament.

2) Thomas’ Melclassics Blazing Gold For Phoria, 14 mths, red, smaller type than 1 but still of good quality, good head and body properties but a little straight behind, moved OK.

3) Bumpton & Doyle’s Walkbynight Sampson For Bullcliray.

SYD 2 1) Aston & Thompson’s Astonpride Enzi, red, a cracking upstanding specimen with typical alert expression, large square head with desired ear set, correctly proportioned broad muzzle, good jaw, muscular neck leads to well placed shoulder, straight front, deep brisket, firm topline retained on the move, driven along by power packed quarters on neat feet.  Super tail carried where it should be, sound and true both ways, presented in tip top condition.  He is light enough in movement to be stealthy, yet with bone, substance and balance throughout to do the job his forebears were bred for, therefore fit for purpose. It was my pleasure to award him BD & BIS.

2) O’neill’s Ruaniall One Minute Warning, red, an attractive exhibit but really did not want to show off his attributes or co-operate on the day.

PGD 3 1) Heasman’s Zavieras Heart Break Kid, red, pleasing overall type, excellent head, good body properties to include bone and substance, deep brisket, level topline, tailset and hindquarters moved out soundly both ways.

2) Crook & Gamble’s Chelatamia’s English Gent, brindle, appealing sort although lighter in bone than 1, and a shade longer in muzzle, fit body with muscular quarters, movement a little weak on the forehand.

LD 3 1) Morgan’s Jenmore Freddie Star, red of excellent quality and balance, most attractive head and expression, well arched neck leads to the best of shoulders, straight front down to neat feet, firm body, muscular well shaped  quarters, sound mover in both directions, considered for top slots.

2) Aston & Thompson’s Astonpride Harrison Hawk At Eternalpride, red, big upstanding dog with plenty of bone and substance though a tad rangy, good head properties and very good hind quarters but lacks a little in fore chest and preferred movement of 1.

3) Alexander’s Sundabish Albert By Anderbel.

OD 5 1) Higginson’s Ch Rodekes Woody, fawn, extremely pleasing type with quality throughout, ears set beautifully on large square skull, desired width and length of muzzle, balanced compact body with good fore chest and deep brisket, good topline, lovely quarters displaying second thigh, good tail set, moved very soundly and typically, beautifully presented, pushed hard for top honours, close decision, preferred attitude of younger dog, nevertheless a worthy RBD and very close up for RBIS.

2) Aston & Thompson’s Astonpride Eternal Love, fawn, larger type than 1 and a little longer cast and a shade longer in muzzle, but with good body properties to include lay of shoulder, powerful hindquarters, plenty of bone and substance, moves out soundly with ease beautifully presented and handled.

3) White’s Murbisa Rocky Of Allwatcha.

MPB 2 1) Myers & Hodgkinson’s Optimus Scarlet, brindle, 8 mths, another high quality attractive pup, very promising head piece developing, good straight front with proportional bone and substance, super body properties and tail set, excellent hind quarters moved faultlessly on neat feet and showed herself well, in the challenge for BP not as together as the male pup being a slower maturing type, however got it all there to trouble the best in the future, BPB & RBPIS.

PB 3 1) Colliass’ Oldwell Dorothea, fawn 11 mths, very feminine, good balance throughout with enough bone for size, powered along by powerful hindquarters retaining topline, attractive head with dark eye, excellent movement, another slow to mature type.

2) Colliass’ Oldwell New Yorker, sister to 1, same applies, quality pup although slightly larger throughout, muzzle a tad longer, excellent lay of shoulder and good movement.

JB 7 1) Darby’s Maidenstock Sweet Pea, brindle 17 mths, quality girl from the top drawer, lovely square head shape with well set ears and balance of muzzle, feminine but with enough bone, straight front assembly framing super fore chest, good ribbing and topline, the best of hind quarters and tail sets, clean lines throughout, moved soundly and easily, presented and handled beautifully, so close up for BB, a little behind on maturity which time will sort a worthy RBB.

2) Bilson’s Jbzee Little Miss Mischief At Zobullea, brindle, 16 mths, another with a lot to like, stronger in head than 1, good straight front, neat feet, topline and tail moved well but not the hind quarters of 1.

SYB 4 1) Morgan’s Jenmore Careless Whisper, brindle, quality head and jaw typical of this kennel, well arched neck to text book shoulder, enough bone and substance throughout, straight forequarters, plenty of heartroom, good topline and tailset, muscular hind assembly carried herself well on tidy feet, changing her coat today.

2) Fowler’s Taurleone Christallino, fawn, head not so advanced as 1, good shoulder, topline, body properties and hind quarters, travelled well but preferred front of 1.

PGB 2 1) Higginson’s Janalath Porche At Rodekes, red, very feminine head, expression, and overall type, straight front assembly, well arched neck leading to good return of upper arm, level topline, excellent hind assembly, moved, handled and presented to perfection by her young handler.

2) Heasman’s Joybull Just So At Zaviera, fawn, larger type than 1 with plenty of bone and substance, good topline, angulation and the best of feet, very attractive head but preferred more alert expression of 1.

LB 4 1) Thomas’ Rosco’s Diamond Doll Of Phoria JW, red, drop dead gorgeous girl exuding quality and type, most beautiful head and expression, feminine throughout, yet enough bone and substance to balance, good lay of shoulder leads to straight front, deep brisket, compact body with firm topline, well set tail, powerful muscular hindquarters, drives her along soundly, coming and going on neat feet, can’t stand herself wrong.  Very difficult decision for BIS, nothing in it, opted for masculinity on this occasion, delighted to award her BB, RBIS & BOS.

2) Embley’s Roscos Hope Diamond, fawn, sister to 1 another quality girl, smashing head and expression, nice eye, good shoulder, ribs, topline, tailset and rear quarters moved out well on tidy feet, however, a little down on pastern compared to 1.

3) Wilson’s Little Miss Lady Marmalade of Urban Dream.

OB 6 1) Thomas’ Brynfaw Numero Uno Via Jaynos, red, pleasing overall type, good head properties, well balanced body with good ribbing, firm topline, muscular hind quarters, tidy feet moved, handled and presented in excellent order.

2) Pinch’s Eastern Star Of Bryntaf, red, a really lovely girl with cracking head, shoulder, topline and angulation, tail never stops wagging, however clearly enjoys all the pies, would prefer to see a slimmer version.

Open Stakes 1) Brynfaw Numero Uno Via Jaynos.  2) Oldwell Ike.  3) Chelatamias English Gent.

Brace 1) Oldwell Brace. 2) Rodekes Brace.
